Louis VII and Eleonore
Louis VII became king at 16 years old under the serious surveillance of his mother. Growing up, he soon realized that his mother wanted to control the entire kingdom instead of him. Step by step, he took over the control of the kingdom and his mother went back to her only role of mother.
Later on in his life, he reached the age and had to get married (king rules as you may know) not for love of course but for business. In fact, marrying Eleonore d'Aquitaine, he attached to France the entire South West of France (l'Aquitaine) Who would not do that for a piece of land in South of France ?
Soon enough, he discovered that Eleonore was not the perfect Queen and/or wife he could dream of : she was nymphomaniac and not very discreet…. He also discovered her with other men in the kingdom and the walls were whispering...
One day, coming back from a large and difficult battle to enlarge the kingdom, he discovered his wife in company of her own uncle, Raymond de Poitiers.
People said that Eleonore was a pretty attractive opened mind powerful woman but she was feeling lonely and the king was not in fact interested in her. People even said Louis VII was the most boring King of France.
Louis VII did not pay attention to the affairs of his wife until she started to meet Henri de plantagenet, the future King of England.
As you may know, French and British always had issues in the past. Besides, everybody in the kingdom soon knew what was happening and were whispering in the back of the poor King Louis VII.
This was too much for the poor-boring king Louis VII so he asked the Pope the permission to divorce. The pope accepted it. She left him right away with her important dowry to reach the carrying arm of her lover of the moment Henri .
Eleonore soon met officially Henri de Plantagenet who became Henri II. She married him and had 8 children with him. She had 2 daughters with Louis VII. see Eleonore and Henri II
But the nymphomania of Eleonore did not stop then.
